39% of Mississippi's college freshmen aren't ready for college-level work and spend their tuition gaining remedial skills they should've received for free in high school.
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS), adopted in Mississippi in 2010, provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn so that teachers and parents know how to help them. Consistent standards will provide appropriate academic benchmarks for all students, regardless of where they live. This will allow Mississippi to more effectively help all students succeed. Full implementation takes place in 2012 - 2013.
