59% of Arizona's college freshmen aren't ready for college-level work and spend their tuition gaining remedial skills they should've received for free in high school.

Arizona joined with 46 other states to create the next generation of K-12 standards in English language arts and mathematics. Arizona's College and Career Ready Standards provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and the 21st century workplace. The Arizona State Board of Education adopted ACCS on June 28, 2010. Implementation of the standards began in 2011 and they have been fully implemented during the 2013 school year.
