42% of Alaska's college freshmen aren't ready for college-level work and spend their tuition gaining remedial skills they should've received for free in high school.
Alaska is one of four states that opted not to adopt the Core in Math and Language Arts. However, they have signed up for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium which is being created to assess students' knowledge of the Common Core Standards, so Alaska's independent standards will look a lot like Common Core.
